Zagreb - cooling off

Jarun Lake

A man-made lake in the southwest of Zagreb, just north of the Sava River, the site offers swimming in the summer months, beach-volleyball, trampolines, mini-car racetracks, and inflated plastic slides. As is common in Croatia, there is also a section for nude sunbathing, on the opposite side from the main swimming part.

Sljeme Peak

If you went swimming yesterday, and it's even hotter today, you can try a visit to Sljeme, the highest peak in the Medvednica Mountains, at 1033 meters. There are three ways to reach the mountain: by car, on foot (there are numerous mountain paths) or by ski lift, which starts from the former village of Gračani. The cable car has run since 1963, and carries four people at a time. There is a church on top of the mountain, the Chapel of Our Lady Sljeme, built in commemoration of the millenium of Christianity in Croatia, in 1932.
